~ So What Makes Certain Things “Legit Santa Muerte” and Other Things Not? ~

So the last post about the “Santa Muerte Sigil, Seal, Veve, Firma” really got a lot of people talking and discussions galore where brought up in various groups across all different platforms. So NOW I am going to bring this question up……What makes certain things “Legit Santa Muerte” and other things not? Like for example the seal that I am displaying for this post.

The image above is one of seven seals that are said to be hers and from what I have read in the various books in Spanish about these “Seven Sacred Seals Of Santa Muerte” as they are called are claimed to have been given to a devotee through channeling and dreams for all her devotees to use in rituals. Are these “Legit Santa Muerte” or not? Because they appear in numerous books mostly in Spanish that are published in Mexico are they “Legit Santa Muerte” seals or are they someone’s invention in order to sell books?

Also within many of these books is what is called “Los 10 Mandamentos de La Santa Muerte” or the 10 Mandates of La Santa Muerte which runs similar to the 10 Commandments. Ten simple rules to follow within the cult so is it considered “Legit Santa Muerte” or not?

These are also plenty of videos up on YouTube and TikTok and even a movie titled “Los Sellos de La Santa Muerte” about these seals or use of them. (Please note the movie I believe is more of a police, gang, vendetta action movie). There is an author who has published several books about Santa Muerte and much of the information comes from his website but one of his books is about thirteen seals that he created for working with Santa Muerte. So are his seals “Legit Santa Muerte” or BS just to promote his books?

Another author and devotee also has a different seal that was channeled aside from the fact that there is no Catholicism within his book. Does that make it “Legit Santa Muerte” or not? (I personally have two of his books and I loved them both).

STATUES!! That’s another thing I have seen so many different statues in many different colors each with a purpose and function which has grown from what many call and consider “The Three Traditional” colors of her cult. So because there are various statues does that make them “Legit Santa Muerte” or not?

And the biggest question of all: WHO DECIDES what is considered “Legit Santa Muerte” and what is not? While there are many who have been devotees of her for more than 30+ years and can be considered “elders” there is no hierarchical structure within the cult of Santa Muerte so if someone decides to work with her in a different way that is not considered the norm are they considered “Legit Santa Muerte” devotees or not?
