~ The Infamous Santisima Muerte’s Veve, Sigil, Firma whatever you want to call it ~

 

 

OK so this is an image that has been floating around the internet for a very long time and has made it way into many groups, shown on YouTube and Instagram being claimed to the “Firma, Veve or Sigil” of La Santisima Muerte BUT IT ISN’T!!  I know that there are those that will either agree or disagree with this post but I want and need to set the record straight about it.

Let’s begin with the origins of this thing and that is a book written by one Carlos Antonio De Bourbon-Galdiano-Montenegro back in 1997 titled ” Palo Mayombe – The Dark Side Of Santeria” and in this book he speaks of various initiation rituals to the Nkisi which are the spirits that you work within this tradition that comes to the US from Cuba which came of the Congos of Africa.

Now a few things that I would like to point out and that is FROM MY UNDERSTANDING and this came from a Palero that I knew and that YES Carlos Montenegro is indeed scratched into Palo so he is legit and has license in CUBAN PALO.  HOWEVER somewhere along the lines he got into Quimbanda which comes out of Brazil and who knows what happened from there but he is shunned by the Palo community for his BS.  NOW in his book he gets into this “Initiation”

 

So according to this fine piece of literature you can receive Santa Muerte in a ceremony which includes her “mysteries” is a sopera and elekes as a prize.  NOW THIS should raise some flags right there because HOW DO YOU RECEIVE THE MYSTERIES OF DEATH!!  Well very simple YOU DON’T oh and BTW the next chapter is about “Initiation Ceremony of The Intranquil Spirit” so say it with me now WTF?!!!

Also he wrote another book in which supposedly he goes into full detail about the construction of Ngangas and states that the Santa Muerte Firma is placed on the inside of her Nganga along with ingredients in order to make a working Nganga and he cuts out the Santeria like initiation all together so you are getting scratched into her mysteries instead.

Now this book came out about more or less give or take about 8 years after the incident that happened down in Matamoros, Mexico with which already put a stain on both Santa Muerte and Palo Mayombe involving the death of Mark Kilroy at the hands of Adolfo Constanzo and his cult. When his compound was raided they found Ngangas and Altars of Santa Muerte set up with human remains everywhere.

Now there are people that have used it with her and said that it works for them and I know of one devotee who uses an altered version of it and makes the most beautiful candles for her using it. The whole point of this post was to give the origins of this firma as the original creator calls it NOT to bash anyone who wishes to incorporate it into their devotion and workings with her since there are those that wear the tetragrammaton which is used in ceremonial magick and not really associated with Santa Muerte either.
